RELX SDG Inspiration Day 2025
The Future of Philanthropy: Stepping up for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Can philanthropy bridge the funding gap necessary to advance the Sustainable Development Goals?
Join thought leaders, including Ban Ki-moon, 8th United Nations Secretary General, in discussing the role for philanthropy in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations estimates that the funding gap to realise the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is likely north of $4 trillion annually. Cuts to state aid announced in 2025 across a number of global capitals will only exacerbate the situation further. Can philanthropy step up to bridge the divide?
We will discover what direction philanthropy – both cash and in-kind – is likely to take over the five years left to run on the SDGs; in particular, the role for relevant stakeholders, including companies, trusts and foundations and citizens. We will explore the nexus between private and public funders in areas aligned with RELX’s unique contributions ranging from financial inclusion, improving science and health, access to justice and fostering resilient communities.
