"This chapter presents examples of inclusive architecture for atypical people, designed by Allen Kong Architects (AKA). The design philosophy of AKA is that the quality of life of the individual is first and foremost within their community, and that this requires addressing their individual needs in a way that also recognizes their social, economic and environmental context.

This chapter advances Goals 7, 16, and 10 by exploring the tensions between democracy and procedural justice across two diverse case studies from Canada (wind energy) and the United States (oil and gas). The authors identify a common scalar mismatch between the interests and power of those exercising democracy at provincial/state levels and those living locally and impacted by development—straining to have their voices heard.

This chapter advances the UN SDG goals 12 and 11 by focusing mainly on the IPLC perspective in seabird conservation. By understanding this worldview and the associated approaches, we can set the stage to build a bridge between both groups in an effort to achieve more effective approaches to seabird conservation.
