The article highlights that urban environments, while historically shaped by colonialism and displacement, are now vital spaces for Indigenous resurgence and self-determination. Through innovative, community-driven food sovereignty initiatives, urban Indigenous groups are revitalizing traditional knowledge, strengthening cultural identity, and fostering healing relationships with land. These efforts not only address pressing issues like food insecurity and loss of cultural practices but also demonstrate the adaptability and resilience of Indigenous peoples. By reclaiming agency over their food systems and nurturing intergenerational connections, urban Indigenous communities are building inclusive, sustainable futures rooted in ancestral wisdom and ecological stewardship.

This systematic review highlights the high prevalence of food insecurity among pregnant women in Latin America and the Caribbean, with rates ranging from 28% to 65% before the COVID-19 pandemic. It identifies key socioeconomic and psychosocial determinants—including low income, limited education, precarious housing, lack of stable partners, and mental distress—that disproportionately affect women’s access to adequate nutrition during pregnancy. The study emphasizes the urgency of targeted public health policies to reduce food insecurity and health inequalities for mothers and children in the region, reinforcing the importance of supporting women’s health and nutrition.

This study highlights how deeply rooted gender norms in Nigeria shape nutrition outcomes for women, infants, and young children, showing that women’s limited mobility, household roles, and constrained decision-making reduce participation in key nutrition practices. Using community data across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, researchers identified restrictive gender meta-norms that influence access to nutritious foods and care, alongside evolving exceptions that signal potential change. The findings emphasize the need for gender-aware programs and policies that empower women, engage men, and transform norms to improve maternal and child nutrition.
